AMASUNZU TALK
Why are they looking at us like that?
I think they’re looking at you. They think you’re weird.
What do you mean weird?
Well, I guess I didn’t tell you. My friends have never seen anyone with this hair style before.
How is that possible? I’m one of the oldest hairstyles in Rwanda. Are your friends Bazungu?
No, they’re Rwandan, born and raised.
I can’t believe they don’t know what Amasunzu is. Am I that rare these days?
To be honest, not many people wear Amasunzu anymore.
Either they don’t know about it or think it’s strange.
Maybe they’ve seen someone from Inganzo Ngari with hair like me,
but I doubt they know the history.
There used to be over 30 different styles of Amasunzu.
I was the hairstyle of warriors, of the noble and brave.
Young guys used to beg their parents to let them wear Amasunzu. It’s a symbol of pride.
I should tell them about this.
So why do you keep me on your head?
Because I like you.
Oh, so I’m COOL?
I make you cool!!!
